Micropointillism

One of my favorite ways to paint is by acrylic micropoint painting. I won’t get into detail on how they’re created. Basically they’re paintings made by blocking areas out from the 3 colors of paint that get sprayed onto the canvas. The three colors used are the three primary colors — yellow, red (magenta), and blue (cyan). When I painted my first one, it made me think of a 3-color aquatint etching on canvas.

I love painting this way. The end results are often a surprise and the colors are extremely vibrant. They’re incredibly easy to do and lend themselves well to my style of drawing. If you’d like to try a painting in this method, check out these detailed instructions by Stephen Goodfellow, one of the creators of this fun technique.
