The terrific comic store, Green Brain Comics, in Dearborn, Michigan commemorated the 50th anniversay of the first issue of Marvel Comic's The Fantastic Four, by having the first issue redrawn and/or re-interpreted by a diiferent artist for each age. I was given page 10 from a random selection. To compare my version to the brilliantly-drawn one by Jack Kirby, hold your cursor over my drawing.

Although I emulated his layout and positioning quite a bit, I played a lot with color. The 2nd through 6th panels were done in black plus a primary and a secondary color, going from cool colors and finishing with very warm ones to heighten the drama. I also took in mind, that I wanted the "cosmic rays" to have green in their panels. I wanted yellow and orange for the panel with Johnny Storm taking his helmet off to foreshadow him becoming the Human Torch. And the last panel had orange to foreshadow the color of the Thing (which Ben Grimm would turn into) and red to play up the most dramatic panel of them all to signify the danger. I also inclded a floor with a hexagonal pattern to emulate the rock pattern of the the Thing's body. The first panel is black along with the primary and seconday colors used in the panels after it.

Another thing I altered a bit from the original is the "sound" from the cosmic rays. In the original, you only hear the noise "RAC TAC TAC" in the second panel. In my version, I was hoping to give an impression of sound by starting it in the second panel but increasing the size of the font of it in the rest of the panels to give the impression of it getting louder and louder.
