The King Of Cups (cover illustration)
2003
phony woodcut
10.5" x 8.5"
This is an illustration I did for the cover of a book called “The King Of Cups” by New Orleans author James Quina. Although it doesn't depict a particular scene in the book, I tried to show the main characters and how they related to each other symbolically. The panther was not featured prominently in the book, but appears in a dream to foreshadow the troubles the main character will endure. It was such a compelling image in my mind, I used it as a symbolic foreshadowing of menace in the illustration.
