Man
Bent Over
1987
woodcut
8" x 11-1/2"
This
is an early two-color woodcut. I was studying a lot of the
work of Edvard Munch at the time. I loved his expressionistic
use of color and copied his technique of sawing a woodblock
into pieces, inking them separately with different colors,
and then reassembling them before printing it. The solid use
of red is supposed to be shadow, but some have seen it as
blood. Its not a bad interpretation, so I wont
dispute it.
